This varied programme of music for strings features works by composers who contributed enormously to the musical riches of the 20th Century and who are being honoured as they reach milestone anniversaries. Some 70 years after his death, Sibelius remains a national hero in Finland, while the Op.7 Duo by Kodaly – who died 50 years ago – is today recognised as a true masterpiece. Both Gershwin & Ravel passed away 80 years ago; their musical languages are at once both worlds apart and gloriously connected.
