Like many ladies of her era, Jane Austen was an accomplished musician, as indeed were many of her characters. A keen collector of folk songs and canzonettas, Jane frequently played the pianoforte for the enjoyment of her family and friends, practising for several hours every morning. In the first of LICMF 2017’s events marking the 200th anniversary of her death, this recital showcases a selection of works with which Jane would have been familiar, by composers whose music she was known to love.
